Meet the agile robot of future- ‘Spot’.

Boston Dynamics has launched its quadruped robot “SPOT”. It is advanced than the wheel-based robots and walks like a tetrapod. This guy is flexible and can walk in rocky, uneven rough terrain. The company has launched it in three variants i.e. “Spot Enterprise”, “Spot Academic”, “Spot Explorer”. “Spot Enterprise” is perfect industrial use, “Spot Academic” is built for academic use whereas the “Spot Explorer” is designed especially for the developers.

The “Spot Explorer” costs $74,500 (about Rs 56,73,000). This flexible machine can move with a maximum speed up to 3 mi/h. It has swappable batteries with a run time up to 90 mins. So,you can replace the dead battery with a freshly one at any time. It avoids obstacles and any clash with the environment. This guy is capable to operate between -200C to 450C. This monster has a carrying capacity of 14kg and it is IP54 rain and dust protected.

Applications:

User can equip it with gas detectors to detect the poisonous gas remotely without harming any human life. You can equip it with thermal cameras to measure the temperature in industrial sites where humans feel unsafe. You can equip it with laser scanners to produce 3D models of the working sites. Not only that this can be equipped with sensors to detect the hazardous radiations in nuclear plants.

The company has mentioned that the possibilities are numerous and the company also provides Spot’s Software Development Kit (SDK) to develop custom applications, integrate payloads like Spot Cam, Spot Gxp, etc.
